about
Cracked Ceilings is the new musical project featuring Nate Jones, formerly of St. Louis's own Kentucky Knife Fight, as it's sole member.
Jones has composed complex backing tracks that combine bass synth, keys, realistic and electronic drum sounds (not unlike The Kills or Ween) and loops live guitar parts (a la Andrew Bird or Tuneyards) and sings over these tracks.
This is the first of a 5 track demo. Donations are not necessary, but are welcome and will go towards t-shirts and other merch to be made shortly in the future, as Cracked Ceilings will be getting out of town as often as possible and is looking to tour frequently.
lyrics
Lyrics:
They met with far away cities
and prior commitments in their eyes
and left the bar planning plane rides
and dotting paths through country lines
Chorus:
If you asked me if it was worth it
you know I would say yes every time
years spent staring down those state roads
and longing for home in horizon lines
now I've got nothing
now I've got nothing
to lose
They worked to build up the branches
up from the names that gave them life
and one day, they saw the future
in curves and waves in the sonogram light
Chorus
we were climbing
steadily
towards open skies
Chorus
...In every valley in every alley
in every city in every seedy bar
to be the voices on all your phones
you know that we all tried so very hard
streaming you to sleep
singing on the cheap
while you looked in the mirror
and longed for your best years back too
